Muddy Water is a direct translation from the Maori place-name Waipara (Wai – water Para – mud or sediment).
Muddy Water is a small family owned organic Estate with a total area of 36 hectares, 15 hectares are planted in vines.
We are on the western slopes of the Teviotdale Hills, a coastal range which protects Waipara from the cool sea breezes.
The soils at Muddy Water are calcareous clays, these soils give our wines their distinctive minerality.
We grow and produce Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinotage.
